Radio Interview with Olphaert den Otter about Geertgen was hier
Gallery De Vishal in Haarlem is showing an exhibition called Geertgen was hier (‘Geertgen was here’) that features works by twelve contemporary artists working under the inspiration of master painter and lay brother Geertgen tot Sint-Jans (Haarlem, 1465-1495), the Netherlands’ most important painter of the fifteenth century. He is seen as the founder of painting in the North Netherlands, as well as the group portrait, for which Jan van Eyck counts as his South-Netherlands predecessor. It is high time that the general public become acquainted with his work.
In the studio, Anton de Goede talks to visual artist Olphaert den Otter, represented by his work Bad trip and Aart van der Kuijl, one of the organisers who works as artistic co-ordinator at De Vishal. De Avonden VPRO Wednesday 12 August 2009 ->
